JAN PRESTON is a knockout boogie pianist with a rich resonant voice who has captured audiences around the world with her originality, her energy, and her sparkling charm and gentle wit.
From a background in classical music with a long-term interest in composition and song writing, Jan Preston has created her own style, not only through her piano playing but also her singing and songwriting, which now sees her shine as a truly Antipodean original.
Winner of 5 music awards, Jan has sold out concerts throughout Australia, NZ, Europe and the UK, composes music for film and TV, and performs side by side with the greatest contemporary boogie piano players in the world today.
Her early career began in NZ with the 1980 No 1 Hit Band Coup D’Etat, and around this time she was asked by (then filmmaker) Sam Neil to write music for a documentary. Jan has continued composing music for film and TV all her life, most recently for the documentary Border Politics featuring Julian Burnside, as well as performing original soundtracks for Silent Movies in Film Festivals and Series, such as the Melbourne International Film Festival 2018.
“an inspirational and gifted pianist, performer and entertainer with
grace, unbelievable dexterity, warmth and poignancy……..her playing is
as flawless as it is loose and joyful” Rhythms Magazine
Due to circumstances beyond her control, Jan Preston has cancelled her Hobart concert scheduled for 1 February 2019. We will advise when the concert is rescheduled.
